The Pursuit of Business; Collaborating to Make It Happen Fall 2009 Steve Pesce, Director of New York Window Film Company, had a dilemma which he quickly turned into an opportunity. He had contracted a project in Midtown Manhattan for a 38-story building calling for removal and replacement of solar window film on the building’s 170,000 square feet of glass. Using New York Window Film’s full-time crew to complete this work would seriously impact the timely completion of other scheduled jobs and hinder the pursuit of other business. He solved the dilemma by calling U.S. Film Crew’s CEO, Glenn Yocca. “For a large project, U.S. Film Crew fit perfectly. They provided project management, daily reports, project goals and were thorough with their work,” Pesce said. USFC has the intangibles needed for a project of this stature and size. One particular obstacle that needed to be addressed was the fact that a series of windows, especially on the higher floors, were covered by building columns. A total of 6 inches separated the floor-to-ceiling windows from the columns supporting the structure. Convection units lined the walls but stopped 3 inches before the column, making access and clearance even more limited.”

The original plan called for the removal of these “covered” windows followed by removing the old film, installing the new film and then replacing the windows. It was estimated to cost 1 million dollars to complete this process. Glenn Yocca of U.S. Film Crew proposed a different approach which avoided the necessity of removing the windows. Pesce agreed to have USFC perform trial runs on some of the covered windows. USFC demonstrated that the project could be accomplished as an inside job by customized modification of its tools. “We saved them a lot of time and money by problem-solving through an obstacle that the industry said ‘couldn't be done’.”
